Doing Someone a Good Favor without Expecting Anything in Return

Assalaamu'alaikum, wonderful people.

Humans are individual as well as social beings. At times, they want to be on their own, doing anything independently. At other times, they want to get along with others. These conditions apply for them to survive and thrive. Living a balanced life like this helps them achieve their goals.

Naturally similar, humans might have independent thoughts that could be different from one another. Therefore it is normal that they would like something that others would not. Yet this indispensable condition urges humans to accept and understand differences.

Quite naturally, it is normal that humans would frequently interact with those having more similarities. Sharing common personalities, preferences, and qualities play a vital role in uniting humans. The fact that there is nothing that is totally similar does not neglect the existence of such an interaction. A few differences, as long as well understood, would not make a problem. Instead, they would make a little variety in the relationship of the interacting parties. In turns, having a little problem is normal, but does not create a major conflict. This is the variety in question.

In a broader context, human-to-human interactions would be mutual or nonreciprocal. Experiencing the first is favorable, and everyone would prefer this to the second one.

It is very humane if we want to get something in return after we do something to others. Nevertheless this perfect condition would not 100% become real as people have different interests. Thus, we will be more likely getting the second one. Then, we need to think of doing the following practices.

1. Accept differences.
2. Address differences positively with open mind.
3. Think that we do people favors for the sake of positivity.
4. Do our best when helpvling others.
5. Keep in mind that getting something in return is not the goal of helping. Its goal is to ease other's job, or to get things done. InsyaAllah, when it is done, our happiness gets doubled.

That's all the discussion about not expecting things in return upon doing someone a good favor. I hope we can look into ourselves and see if we have that control to do someone a good favor because that's the right thing to do. Aamiin. People change and we can push ourselves to change to be a better version of ourselves.

Wassalaamu'alaikim, wonderful people. Bye...
